What you're taking on
Venomous listings on the Exchange are gated. To buy, you must hold current Venomous Keeper Certification, satisfy your state and local permitting, and be able to name the antivenom stocked for your species and the hospital that holds it. Certification gates contact on venomous listings, and sellers verify you can legally receive the animal.
- Your own written bite protocol, before you buy anything.
- Confirmed antivenom availability for that exact species.
- Escape-proof, locked, purpose-built caging already installed.
- Documented hands-on hours under an experienced keeper.
- Whether your homeowner's or renter's policy voids on this.
Keep it right from day one
Venomous and never handled — managed entirely with hooks, tongs and lockable caging by trained, permitted keepers.
Locking caging, a hook and tongs, a written bite protocol and a hospital/antivenom plan are mandatory.
Clear this before you offer
Required on the Exchange for every venomous transaction, regardless of what your state asks for. Sellers cannot release an animal to an uncertified buyer.
Rules vary by state, county and city — and city ordinances frequently override a permissive state law. Clear all three.
Identify the antivenom for your species and the facility that stocks it before the animal ships. Give a copy of your bite protocol to someone who is not you.
Certification gates contact on venomous listings, and sellers verify the buyer can legally receive the animal. The permit on your wall is your responsibility. When in doubt, call your state wildlife agency before you place a deposit.
