What you're taking on
Retics are advanced-keeper animals. Mainland lines reach lengths that demand purpose-built caging and a second person present for handling; dwarf and super-dwarf lines from Kalatoa, Jampea and Selayar stay far more manageable. They are also unusually responsive and recognise their keepers.
- Exact dwarf percentage, in writing — this drives adult size.
- Island locality of the dwarf blood (Kalatoa, Jampea, Selayar).
- Feeding response and how it was tap-trained.
- Your state and city law before you commit — many restrict retics.
- The seller's honest adult-size estimate, not a best case.
Keep it right from day one
Intelligent and food-driven — calm with experienced keepers, but demands respect and routine.
Two-keeper rule applies to large adults.
Read the morph names
Big, intelligent, and increasingly designer. Alongside colour and pattern genes, retics carry dwarf and super-dwarf localities that cap adult size — a key thing to read before you buy.
Comes in Purple, Lavender and White lines — striking pattern, no black.
Connected, aberrant pattern that clears the sides.
A clean dorsal stripe running the length of the body.
Random patches of pure white across a patterned animal.
Elongated, banded pattern; the super is a bold high-contrast animal.
Brightens and intensifies colour with a warm glow.
Clear this before you offer
Several states and many municipalities restrict large constrictors by length or by species. Confirm your address is clear before you place a deposit.
Certification gates contact on venomous listings, and sellers verify the buyer can legally receive the animal. The permit on your wall is your responsibility. When in doubt, call your state wildlife agency before you place a deposit.
